Who we are

Interaction

In the areas of research and education, the AZU hospital and WKZ children’s hospital work closely with the Faculty of Medicine at Utrecht University. Together they comprise UMC Utrecht. This allows a vast range of different disciplines (employing nearly 11,000 people) to learn from each other and work together to expand their horizons. The interaction between health care, education and research not only enhances patient care, but also benefits our employees. Research at UMC Utrecht

With over a 1,100 beds and more than 11,000 employees the University Medical Center Utrecht is one of the largest academic centers in the Netherlands. Patient care and biomedical research are closely linked, which creates an environment where scientific advancements quickly move from bench to bedside. Advancements that improve patients lives and that matter internationally. The scientific output from the UMC Utrecht has a 1.68 citation score between 2007 and 2010/11. This implies a scientific impact 68% higher than world average. The faculty of medicine from Utrecht University, which transferred five degree programs to UMC Utrecht, comprises over 3,500 bachelor and master students in medicine, biomedical sciences and clinical health sciences.
