With 14,000 students registered on 54 Bachelor and Masters courses and eight faculties, South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences is one of the largest of its kind in North Rhine Westphalia. Despite this, it is a friendly studying environment at its campuses in Hagen, Iserlohn, Meschede, Soest and Lüdenscheid. Associated research and (technology) transfer institutes are networked with South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences in the main research areas of computer sciences, information and communication technology, optical technologies, materials science and production engineering, environmental and energy research, sustainable agriculture, as well as bio- and nanotechnology.
