Research at the University Medical Center covers a relatively wide spectrum of activities. In recent years, the University Medical Center has strengthened its national and international visibility through a great number of high-ranking publications and patents, as well as through successful acquisition of highly competitive third party funding. Within the context of these activities, the University Medical Center collaborates with many regional, national, and international partners.

A special priority of the University Medical Center Mainz is the promotion of young researchers. The impact and reach of this priority are constantly expanding thanks to the active work of the Research Training Groups (Graduiertenkollegs). Furthermore, a number of programs are in place to support the research activities of the University Medical Center: Third party funding, Open Access publishing and the promotion of women and young researchers are at the core of this support system. Overall, the aim is to create an improved framework for research, thus strengthening the international competitiveness and interdisciplinarity of the University Medical Center and its researchers.
