Department of Computing at the University of Turku is searching for a fixed-term postdoctoral researcher in computational systems biology, focusing on the links between microbiome and cancer. The work can start on August 1, or based on mutual agreement during 2026. The position is fixed-term for 12 months.
We are seeking a highly motivated computational biologist to join as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the research group team of Prof. Leo Lahti (Department of Computing, University of Turku). The project focuses on microbiome (eco)systems biology in cancer research in close collaboration with Prof. Peter Boström (Department of Urology, Turku University Hospital).
The position will focus on computational analysis and modeling of links between human microbiome and cancer. The selected candidate will develop and apply data science methods, contribute to data processing, engage in team activities, and actively seek to publish and disseminate research in journals, seminars, and scientific conferences. The candidate will have an opportunity to influence their focus within the project based on earlier experience and skills. We work on a range of topics with a focus on high-throughput omics data integration and analysis in population cohort studies (e.g. metagenomics, metabolomics) aiming at groundbreaking scientific discoveries using high-performance computing environments. The work is linked to international collaboration projects. The work is research-oriented but may include contributions to other research-supporting tasks, such as coordination, writing of grant applications, teaching and supervision.
The position requires earlier track record in computational (life) sciences and English communication skills.
