One postdoc position (f/m/x) is available starting January 2025 in the group of Elena Rugarli at the Cologne Excellence Cluster on Cellular Stress Responses in Aging- Associated Diseases (CECAD) and Institute for Genetics of the University of Cologne. Our group is interested in studying how disturbance of mitochondrial quality control leads to neurodegenerative diseases. We investigate intra-mitochondrial quality control components as well as the role of RNA-binding proteins in regulating mitochondrial function. As part of the Collaborative Research Centre 1218, we seek an enthusiastic and highly motivated scientist (f/m/x). You can find more information here: (https://sfb1218.uni-koeln.de/).
The research environment in the Cologne campus is stimulating and dynamic. The group closely collaborates with other groups working on mitochondrial medicine such as the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing, and is integrated in the CECAD Cluster of Excellence Cellular Stress Responses in Aging-Associated Diseases and the Institute for Genetics.

YOUR TASKS

  • Develop a project in the field of RNA biology and mitochondrial function
  • Design and lead a research project to elucidate mechanisms how the RNA-binding protein CLUH regulates mRNAs encoding mitochondrial proteins
  • Conduct your own research project under the supervision of the Principal Investigator
  • Accurately record and analyse your data, according to good scientific practice

YOUR PROFILE

  • Doctoral degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Neurobiology or equivalent
  • Practical experience in a broad range of molecular, biochemical and cell biology techniques is essential
  • Previous experience in the fields of RNA biology, translational regulation and structural biology is an advantage
  • Team player who can work independently in an international team
  • Proactive, flexible and problem-solving attitude
