The Terrestrial Microbiology lab studies plant – microbe interactions with a focus on biotrophic fungal pathogens, in particular smut fungi. We invite self-motivated applicants in the field of molecular plant-microbe interactions. The successful candidate will investigate mechanisms of microbial competition in fungus-plant interactions. In particular, the role of fungal effector proteins in the biotic interactiona of plant-colonizing fungi will be studied.

• Conduct and manage a research project in the TerrestrialMicrobiology Lab»
• Investigate the role of effector proteins for microbialcompetiton of plant-colonizing smut fungi»
• Supervise undergraduate student projects and contribute to BSc and MSc teaching activities of the lab»
• Develop your own research focus»
• Publication of research data and aquisition of third-partyfunding

YOUR PROFILE

• PhD in Biology or in a related discipline with a strong,proven background in molecular plant-microbe interactions»
• Evidence of expertise in microbial genetics requiredgenetics is mandatory»
• Hands-on experience in computational data analysis(comparative genomics, transcriptomics and/or amplicon sequencing) is apprechiated»
• Excellent English skills, both written and spoken
