Job description:

The Institute of Science, Technology & Innovation (IST&I) at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) invites applications for a full-time research fellow position combining skills at the interface between Materials chemistry & Photoelectrochemistry, and Heterogeneous catalysis.

The successful candidate will plan, develop and conduct applied & engineering research programs focusing on designing and development active materials for electrocatalytic and photoelectrocatalytic degradation of dyes. Other duties include advising graduate students and contribution to build up a first-class research-oriented teaching and research programs at UM6P. The incumbent will be encouraged to work with current faculty in related fields, should be able to contribute to interdisciplinary research collaborations in one or more areas at UM6P’s ecosystem. Ability to engage professionally with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students across the university and externally is required. The position is open to individuals who hold a Doctoral degree in the subject discipline from a recognized university with minimum 5-years’ research experience. Excellent English communication, both verbal and written, is required.

Key duties:

Successful candidates are expected to:

  • Establish of a state-of-the-art laboratory in the area of photoelectrochemistry, Materials Science and Heterogeneous catalysis.
  • Conduct scientific research in a team composed of multidisciplinary researchers, Initiate and develop funded research projects and programs in collaboration with multidisciplinary groups in the field,
  • Participate in the teaching of undergraduate as well as graduate courses related to the candidate's areas of research interest, training and supervision of graduate students, development of teaching materials,
  • Presenting research results and scientific outcomes to stakeholders and at national and international scientific meetings and conferences,
  • Publish research results in peer-reviewed and high impact international academic journals of the field,
  • Establish and maintain close working relationships, collaborations, and partnerships with industrial institutions and other UM6P researchers/groups on multidisciplinary research projects.

Criteria of the candidate:

  • PhD in chemistry of in materials and environmental sciences, Electrochemistry or chemical engineering or other related fields from a recognized University,
  • At least two years of postdoctoral research experience or industrial experience in the Photoelectrochemistry, Materials Science and Heterogeneous catalysis.
  • Demonstrated understanding of operational requirements to achieve successful/high- quality research,
  • High publication record in leading international and well ranked journals, preferably on the development of materials for the application in electrodegradation and photoelectrodegradation of organic pollutants
  • Quality of scientific achievements and impact of publications normalized by discipline and career stage (H-index > 7),
  • Experience with Patents,
  • Willingness to learn how to generate new ideas, links, and to build upon existing ideas to generate good concepts and solutions,
  • Ability to supervise graduate students,
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English language, 
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects,
  • Enthusiasm towards generating new ideas and passion for solving challenging problems that require complex creative solutions.

Skills:

The candidate must have demonstrated a research activity in most of the following disciplinary fields:

  • Synthesis of active materials for electrocatalytic and photoelectrocatalytic degradation of dyes.
  • Engineering & development of photoanode,
  • Experience in characterization of materials using various techniques such as Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy, (GC-MS), (HPLC), (EIS), (PL), (EDS), (UV- Vis), TGA-DSC, XRD, SEM, XPS, Raman, etc. and technical skills on the manipulation of most of those instruments,
  • Experience with the preparation of nanostructured electrode materials techniques and analysis,
  • Experience on the preparation of advanced carbon composites. is highly appreciated, 
  • Experience in the use of academic software (Origin, EC Lab.,, VESTA, ….).
