This position allows you to obtain a PhD in the field of mathematical cognition in the research group of Bert De Smedt http://ppw.kuleuven.be/home/english/research/pserg/desmedt, with a focus on the development of academic achievement and educational neuroscience.

Project

Potential topics for the PhD are: neurocognitive predictors of individual differences in mathematical cognition; neurocognitive overlap between math and reading; characteristics of dyscalculia, the impact of math on general cognitive abilities; multilingualism and math; meta-analyses in math cognition. It is also possible to propose an own thesis topic in the broad field of math cognition. 

Profile

• You have a master degree in Psychology, Educational Sciences, Speech and Language Pathology or relevant discipline. Or you are obtaining this degree this academic term.
• You have a strong interest in cognitive development.
• You have experience with experimental cognitive developmental research.
• You have excellent statistical skills. 
• You have excellent academic English writing and presentation skills.
• You are well organized and a good planner.
• You have strong communication skills and are able to collaborate with parents, teachers and schools.
• Being able to communicate in Dutch on an elementary level, or willingness to learn Dutch, are a plus, but not mandatory, as this project will likely involve data collection in children at schools in Belgium.

You can apply to this position until June 24 2024. The decision on this position will be made before mid July 2024. The interviews will take place in the first week of July.
