The work will be performed within the research division STADIUS at the Department of Electrical Engineering (ESAT). STADIUS' major research objective is to contribute to the development of improved digital (control and signal processing) systems that incorporate advanced mathematical modeling techniques as a crucial new ingredient. Within STADIUS, the Biomedical Data Processing Research Group (Prof. Alexander Bertrand & Prof. Maarten De Vos) is dedicated to pushing the limits of biomedical data processing.

This job opening covers a PhD position (4 years) at the STADIUS-BIOMED group of the Electrical Engineering Dept. ESAT of KU Leuven (Belgium) in the frame of the AI initiative of the Flemish Government. The goal of this research is to develop new machine learning methods for data-driven selection and optimization of time series representations, with an application focus on (but not limited to) biomedical signal processing. The quality of the methods can be validated on EEG-based decoding tasks, cardiac abnormality detection, and/or others.
