Job description

The Center for the Law of Obligations and Property is looking for a highly motivated and talented PhD student to join our team. The research focus can be in one of the following areas, based on your preference:

  • The use of artificial intelligence by courts/judges
  • AI and bankruptcy/insolvency law
  • Private law aspects of renewable energy projects
  • Property Law
  • Security rights
  • AI and private law (provided that this aligns with the expertise of the supervisor)

As a PhD student, you will:

  • Conduct academic research in close collaboration with your supervisor(s) to write a doctoral dissertation.
  • Publish your research findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Present your research at national and international conferences or workshops.

Job profile

YOUR PROFILE

We are looking for a creative and motivated PhD student with the following qualifications and skills:

  • A master's degree in Law (or you will obtain this academic year) with excellent academic records at both bachelor and master levels.
  • A strong interest in AI & Law, sustainability & law (renewable energy projects), property law, or security rights (depending on the preferred topic for the PhD).
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Fluency in both Dutch and English, in speaking and writing.

OUR OFFER

  • We offer a full-time position as a doctoral fellow, consisting of an initial period of 12 months, which - after a positive evaluation, will be extended to a total maximum of 48 months.
  • A dynamic and international work environment.
  • Flexible start date, but preferably between 1 September 2024 and 1 December 2024.
  • The fellowship amount is 100% of the net salary of an AAP member in equal family circumstances. The individual fellowship amount is determined by the Department of Personnel and Organization based on family status and seniority. A grant that meets the conditions and criteria of the regulations for doctoral fellowships is considered free of personal income tax. Click here for more information about our salary scales
