It’s a short commute to beautiful beaches, or the city of Xiamen, the multicultural centre of South-East China.

Our Lecturers/Senior Lecturers have a deep understanding of subject-specific expertise   combined with the ability to engage and inspire students.

We have multiple requirements, and these will be permanent contracts. UCA offers a competitive compensation package that includes:

  • 35 days of personal holiday
  • Enrolment in the Teacher’s pension scheme
  • Medical Insurance coverage in China for self and family
  • Reimbursement of Visa application expenses for self and family

  • Settling-In Allowance
  • Annual repatriation (home visit) allowance
  • Free accommodation in China for self and family
  • School or Nursery/ Pre-school allowance

We are offering positions in teaching practice-focused modules that support students in developing technical skills in digital media alongside understanding their practice in relation to theory and context. We utilise an innovative teaching approach, fostering experimentation and combining lectures and seminar discussions with creative workshops and tutorials that guide students in considering the theoretical and contextual relevance of their creative works.

All units are designed to help students develop their communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity and innovation skills, while developing compassionate intelligence. We expect our students to become independent learners, applying these skills to areas such as creative computing, XR, interaction design, animation, sound, moving image, multi-media installation, and other areas where they can push the boundaries of the digital media arts.

It is essential that you have at least 2 years' experience of teaching within Higher Education in a relevant subject area.  Ideally you will have a PhD in a relevant area or can convince us you have equivalent professional experience.

Active research and ongoing professional practice in areas such as AR/VR/MR, 3d modelling game design, immersive and emerging technologies interactivity, and/or animation essential. As part of the role, you will be required to teach technology-driven art and design   workshops using, for example Unity, TouchDesigner, Blender Unreal Engine. Please state in your cover letter what technical workshops you would be able to deliver.

By joining ICI you will become part of our international community of designers, artists, architects and researchers involved in the visual arts, environmental design, visual communication design, and new media. Our educators are involved in pioneering projects and teaching methodologies which they apply through research and mentoring practices.

We are committed to promoting diversity and inclusivity within teaching and working environments.

If you would welcome an informal chat about the role before applying, or any aspect of living and working in China, please contact Francesc Marti Perez by email, Francesc.Marti@uca.ac.uk providing your contact details.
