Test and characterize high-speed optical transceivers, consisting of cutting edge Silicon Photonics integrated circuits and scaled-CMOS electronics.

What you will do

We are looking for a motivated and dynamic test engineer, focusing on characterization of optical transceivers constructed from advanced Silicon Photonics and scaled-CMOS electronics. You will be part of a transceiver design team that will realize and design advanced optical IO transceiver for future AI/ML applications. More in particular you will:

  • Use high-end measurement equipment such as a vector network analyzer, high-speed waveform generators and sampling scopes, and the necessary supporting equipment, tools and parts to characterize both PIC and EIC test structures as well as fully integrated optical transceiver demonstrators.
  • Work closely with the system architect, the PIC and EIC design teams to ensure the devices being designed can be readily characterized, with a view to eventual adoption of measurement procedures in high-volume production. You will develop measurement plans and analyze test data.
  • Establish the necessary test and measurement capabilities, and advise on suitable equipment.
  • Communicate your insights to internal cross-functional teams, technology developers and external partners

What we do for you

We offer you the opportunity to join one of the world’s premier research centers in nanotechnology at its location in Hokkaido, Japan. With your talent, passion and expertise, you’ll become part of a team that makes the impossible possible. Together, we shape the technology that will determine the society of tomorrow.

We are committed to being an inclusive employer and proud of our open, multicultural, and informal working environment with ample possibilities to take initiative and show responsibility. We commit to supporting and guiding you in this process; not only with words but also with tangible actions. We are aware that your valuable contribution makes imec a top player in its field. Your energy and commitment are therefore appreciated by means of a market appropriate rewards package.

Who you are

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent through experience) in Electronics or Electrical Engineering, Photonics.
  • You have at least 3 years experience using high-speed or high-frequency measurement equipment such as vector network analyzers, high-speed arbitrary waveform generators, sampling scopes etc. You have experience with (fiber-based) optical transmission experiments.
  • You have a track record in for example successfully completed optical transmission experiments, characterization of optical or high-speed transceivers.
  • You have the ability to work according to agreed timelines and manage time efficiently according to the project schedules.
  • You possess strong reporting and presentation skills.
  • You thrive in a multidisciplinary and international team.
  • You focus on quality.
  • You communicate fluently in English.
