The following position is available at the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) from 1.9.2024:

Vice-President of the BfR (f/m/d)

The BfR independently prepares expert opinions and statements on issues of food, feed and chemical safety and consumer health protection in Germany on the basis of internationally recognised scientific evaluation criteria. It advises the Federal Government and other institutions and interest groups in these areas. In this way, the BfR makes an important contribution to the protection of human health.

Tasks

• The Vice-President fully represents the President of the BfR as a permanent deputy in both internal and external scientific and administrative matters
• They are directly supported by an experienced management team

Your profile

• We are looking for a person with a university degree and doctorate as well as many years of successful professional experience in a leading position in one of the fields relevant to the BfR (university degree in human or veterinary medicine, biology, chemistry, food chemistry or another relevant natural, social or legal science discipline)
• The post requires in-depth experience and excellent knowledge in science management, including risk communication and quality assurance, as well as in the scientific-administrative field
• The post requires a high degree of leadership and social competence as well as excellent implementation skills, including the ability lead in a family-conscious manner, very good communication skills, including public speaking, and the willingness to assume comprehensive responsibility for the staff, the equipment and for the Institute‘s strategic development
• Good knowledge of national authorities and EU institutions
• Willingness and ability to work in a trusting cooperation with the President of the BfR, the BMEL, other national and international partner authorities and research institutions as well as the relevant committees
• Very good knowledge of German and English

Desired

• Habilitation or equivalent scientific qualification
• International experience in the fields of activity of the BfR
• In-depth professional experience in the acquisition of third-party funding from public research projects and EU research funding
