Fraunhofer IWES, founded in 2009, has more than 500 employees working in the field of wind energy and energy system technology. The operating budget reached 30.5 million Euros in 2013. Fraunhofer IWES possesses extensive testing and experimental facilities, laboratories, and state-of-the-art equipment. Our expertise has allowed us to develop and introduce new testing facilities and test methods. The institute is a well-recognized partner for development and project cooperation on an international level. Its employees contribute their expertise to standardization bodies and guideline commitees.
The main focus of the Insitute in Kassel, headed by Prof. Dr. Clemens Hoffmann, is on energy system technology for integrating renewable energy from for example wind, solar and biomass into power supply structures. The core competences lie in the areas of energy economy, power supply systems, energy storage, energy process engineering, energy informatics, energy meteorology, system design and integration.
