At one of Europe’s largest and most modern business and economics universities. On a campus where quality of work is also quality of life. We are looking for support at the

Institute for International Marketing Management (Prof. Lüdicke & Team)

2x Part-time, 30 hours/week Pre-Doc Positions (for doctoral students) or alternatively

1x Full-time, 40 hours/week Post-Doc Position (for junior scholars with a completed PhD)
Starting as soon as possible, limited to 6 years

The Institute for International Marketing (IMM) advances knowledge on global marketing and consumer cultures and empowers the next generation of global marketing leaders.
As researchers, we develop new knowledge on global marketing but also study global consumer cultures, explore roads to more sustainable consumption, and critically assess the changes and risks of emerging (AI) technologies for marketers, consumers, and society at large. As educators, we teach state-of-the art international marketing knowledge at BSc, MSc, and PhD levels, focusing not only on profitability but also on creating more sustainable and equitable markets.
We are looking for up to two talented, motivated junior academics to contribute to the success of our institute through research on consumer culture (short “CCT”) and teaching on global marketing subjects. We seek to fill either two pre-doc “Teaching and Research Associate” positions (commonly known as doctoral students) or one “Assistant Professor” position (non-tenure track).

What to expect

For All Positions (Pre- and Post-Doc)

  • Team: You will join an energetic, friendly, and internationally recognized group of academics who contribute to society through meaningful research and education.
  • Research Focus: You will join a team that pursues qualitative research in the emerging field of “consumer culture theory”, short CCT. For a CCT reading list, please check https://consumerresearcher.com/cct-in-jcr, or the IMM scholars’ Google Scholar profiles.
  • Collaboration: You will collaborate with internationally recognized experts in consumer culture theory and learn first-hand how to collect and analyze data, write journal articles at the highest academic level, present at conferences, and interact with colleagues from around the world.
  • Research Funding: You will receive funding for conference travel and other research-related expenses as well as individual offices with a view of the spectacular WU campus.
  • Timeframe: Both positions are limited to 6 years. As a PhD student, you will have plenty of time to complete your doctorates while already earning an income. As a post-doc, you will get extra time to sharpen your profile and to apply for a permanent position elsewhere.
  • Network: The IMM as well as WU's widely recognized marketing group are embedded in a global network of universities, academics, alumni, and marketing professionals, which boosts the ability of our new hires to build an international network and find follow-up employment after their WU contracts ends.

For the Pre-Doc (PhD) Positions:

  • Employment: You will be hired for a 75% position, which equals 30hrs a week, for a period of 6 years.
  • Dissertation: You will enroll in WU’s PhD program and complete doctoral courses as part of your training for a PhD in marketing. You will investigate your own research topics and publish in international academic journals.
  • Teaching: You will teach your own course of 1,5 hours per week during summer and winter terms (starting in Spring 2025) and co-supervise student theses.
  • Research and Teaching Support: You will support administrative tasks related to research, teaching, and self-governance.

For the Post-Doc Position:

  • Employment: You will be hired for a 100% position, which equals 40hrs a week, for a period of 6 years (no tenure track).
  • Research: The position will give you time to work on your top-journal CCT publications and collaborate with senior experts in the field.
  • Teaching: You will teach 3 hours (4 SWS) per week during both, summer and winter terms and co-supervise student theses.
  • Administrative Support: You will take over administrative tasks related to research, teaching, and self-governance.

For All Positions (PhD and Post-Doc)

  • Passion for academic work: You have a strong passion for academic research and publishing in top-tier journals in marketing.

  • Soft skills: You have excellent communication, presentation, and analytical skills, a high self-motivation, very good organizational skills, willingness to take on responsibility, natural curiosity, and are a team player.
  • Teaching: You show a high motivation and capacity to conduct inspiring, innovative teaching. You should be willing to use multimedia teaching and learning formats.
