Postdoctoral positions at Uppsala University, Unit of Molecular Tools and Functional Genomics

Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology, Uppsala University 

The lab of Ulf Landegren is now recruiting postdoctoral students. The lab is active at the international forefront of developing advanced technologies for biomedical investigations at levels of DNA, RNA and protein. Several earlier techniques from the lab have enjoyed broad uptake world-wide. A number of companies that have a total workforce of around 900 individuals have been spun out by present or earlier members of the lab. Technologies from the lab have also been successfully commercialized by licensees.

The present postdoctoral positions will be funded by a proof of concept grant from the Swedish Research Council for infection diagnostics, and by a Senior Innovator Grant from Novo Nordisk for advanced protein detection. The effective workplace of the successful applicants will be Uppsala Biomedical Center, and the projects will be conducted in collaboration, either with the company Rarity https://raritybioscience.com, previously spun out from the lab and located one floor below the research lab, or with other industrial experts.

The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University where the Landegren Lab is located, has a broad research profile with strong research groups focused on molecular technology development, cancer and on autoimmune and genetic diseases. A fundamental idea at the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby closer interactions between medical research, industry and health care. The department is integrated with units for Oncology, Clinical Genetics, Clinical Immunology, Clinical Pathology and Hospital Physics at Uppsala University Hospital. The department has teaching assignments in several education programs, including Master Programs, at the Faculty of Medicine, and at the Disciplinary Domain of Science and Technology. The yearly turnover of the department around SEK 500 million, more than half of which is external funding. The staff amounts to approximately 345 employees, with 100 are PhD-students, and there are in total more than 700 affiliated individuals. Duties 

• Full-time research in the field of Molecular Tools, by contributing to the development of molecular techniques to diagnose infectious disease or for advanced protein detection
• Work with techniques including oligonucleotide-assisted reactions for analysis of nucleic acids or proteins, with the aim to develop technology for clinically valuable assays
• Supervision of master and doctoral students. Collaboration with other team members to maintain a strong, intellectually active research environment and a well-functioning lab infrastructure. 
• The successful applicant will also interact with members of companies spun out from the lab

Requirements 

• PhD in biomedicine or similar, with advanced competence in molecular techniques and with a broad perspective on their applications. The degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment. Those who have obtained a PhD degree three years prior to the application deadline are primarily considered for the employment. The starting point of the three-year frame period is the application deadline. In case of special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labor unions, etc
• Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English

Additional qualifications 

• Experience in advanced molecular genetic techniques
• Insights in needs and opportunities for the technologies to be developed

About the employment 

The employment is a temporary position of 2 years according to central collective agreement, with the possibility of a 1 year extension.
