Job description

The department of Urban and Regional Planning and Geo-Information Management (PGM) of ITC links geospatial technologies with diverse societal fields. We take the role of people as stakeholders in all processes as central. Our research focuses on the past, the present, and we work on predicting and supporting governance decisions for an equitable future. As part of the advertised job, you will be working cross-departmentally at ITC and collaborating with colleagues in other faculties of the University of Twente.

Your tasks

We are seeking a self-driven and curious researcher to be part of, and take on a leading role in, a project that will develop a blended learning course focused on geotechnology ethics. The development of the course will involve reaching out to international experts in the field and developing teaching materials. An attendant task is compiling a set of ethics case studies. These will be collected using a citizen science approach that will involve former ITC alumni working at the cutting edge of geotechnology in global settings that are often ignored in available ethics case studies for teaching.

Your tasks will include:

  • Literature research on given topics and concisely reporting on insights
  • General research activities
  • Developing  a framework for a blended learning course
  • Developing content for training courses and teaching resources
  • Collaborate with international educators to co-produce e-learning content
  • Conducting a small scale citizen science project on common ethical issues in geotechnology and using the findings to compile a set of ethics case studies

Your profile

You should:

  • Have an MSc in a related field – ideally – pre-existing topic-specific knowledge (in geo-technology and/or technology ethics)
  • Have some initial teaching experience
  • Have excellent research skills and highly motivated
  • Have good people and networking skills (dealing with both internal and external stakeholders)
  • Be driven and willing to work largely independently
  • Have experience of working in an international academic environment
  • Have good communication and coordination skills (the project language will be English)

Our offer

We offer you a part time position in an inspiring and challenging international environment. You will be employed for one year.

  • Gross monthly salary between € 2,836.00 and € 4,474.00 (fulltime) depending on experience and qualifications (job profile Researcher, level 4).
  • A holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary and a year-end bonus of 8.3%
  • Excellent support for professional and personal development
  • A solid pension scheme
  • Possibilities to save up holidays for sabbatical leave
  • Total of 41 holiday days in case of fulltime employment
