The UK is a great place to study or research. Here is some practical advice to know before you move to the UK as a student or researcher.
Closing Date: 7 January 2019
Applications are invited for a 24 months’ post-doctoral research associate in advanced optics of III-Nitride photonic structures in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Sheffield (UK). The research will be carried out on hybrid light-matter quasiparticles, so-called exciton-polaritons in semiconductor photonic structures based on III-Nitride materials. The major aim of this research is to explore fundamental new many-body polariton states arising from giant polariton-polariton interactions and to develop a novel scalable photonic solid state platform operating at room temperature. The outcomes have high potential for future ultrafast optical signal processing applications and novel UV laser sources. The post arises as part of an EPSRC research grant (EP/R007977/1) held by the Low Dimensional Structures & Devices (LDSD) Group at the University of Sheffield (https://ldsd.group.shef.ac.uk).
You are likely to hold a PhD in a relevant area of experimental solid state physics/or quantum and nonlinear optics. Prior clean room experience in fabrication of semiconductor devices is desirable but not essential.
You will have excellent ability to interact with colleagues as well as high-level presentational skills.
