Salary:  £56,048 to £68,871 per annum (pro-rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.

The University of Nottingham has established a business unit to accelerate the industrialisation of its world-leading research in electrical machines, power electronics and drive systems; Driving the Electric Revolution Industrialisation Centre - Nottingham Drives Specialist Services (DER- IC, NDSS). The centre has been successful in securing a number of aerospace research contracts that require a team-based approach to delivery of next generation hybrid and electric propulsion systems. 

We are particularly looking for motivated individuals who have a flair for ingenuity and a problem solving attitude. The successful candidates will be expected to manage a team of engineers and technicians to lead on the delivery of research and development programmes on electric propulsion systems.

We have a number of positions available for experienced senior engineers within the following fields:

  • Manufacturing Engineering for Electrical Machines
  • Electrical Drives Control
  • Test and Validation of Power Electronics, Machines and Drives
  • Thermal Management
  • Electrical Engineering

You will have experience working in industry and able to apply practical and innovative approach to underpin this initiative. You will work closely with other members of the PEMC group as well as across other research groups in Advanced Manufacturing, Thermofluids and Transmissions. You will also   lead and deliver individual and collaborative complex R&D programmes. These will require generating new intellectual understanding, new research concepts and ideas, work across technical disciplines and delivered research outcomes. 

Preferably you will hold a degree and experience in the relevant areas. You can demonstrate abilities to collaborate with multidisciplinary research teams and projects including in the planning, tasking, resource management, liaison with partners and dissemination of research results.  You can also apply an excellent research techniques and methodologies, use your communication skills and the ability to be a team leader. 

These positions will be offered on a full-time (36.25 hour), permanent contract, and they are available immediately. Job share arrangements may be considered.
