We seek a researcher as part of a team working on a EPSRC funded Prosperity Partnership “Accelerated Discovery and Development of New Medicines”, which is operated in partnership with GSK. The role will support the Investigator team in achieving the Prosperity Partnership’s overall research objectives by conducting research to enable us to integrate Artificial Intelligence with Additive Manufacturing to produce optimised processes. The role holder will develop and use additive manufacturing / 3D printing to create structures for the delivery or manufacture of healthcare devices.
They will use artificial intelligence, machine learning and design optimisation methods to identify the optimal materials, shapes and geometries of unit operations and processes, seeking the most sustainable, efficient, and effective solutions.
As part of the multidisciplinary, multi-centre Prosperity Partnership you will work under the direction of Profs Ricky Wildman, Derek Irvine (Faculty of Engineering) and Ender Ozcan (School of Computer Science). The overall Partnership aims to develop digital approaches to optimising medicines discovery and manufacture: this role will be focused on developing techniques that allow us to identify the most sustainable and effective processes that are used for medicines manufacture.
The role holder will be expected to have and develop knowledge of 3D printing / additive manufacturing and digital methods that can be used for generative design. They will collaborate with material scientists to ensure success.
The role holder is expected to have strong self-motivation and creativity and will also have responsibility for writing up their work in order to contribute to and / or lead the publishing of outcomes. The researcher is expected to hold the values of the University of Nottingham: they will contribute to a positive research culture, commit to an ethos of collaboration and be willing to support the development of others, including undergraduates, postgraduates and other researchers.
The full-time (36.25 hours a week) role is available immediately and it is offered on a fixed term contract until 30th September 2024. Arrangements for job share may be considered. Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.
