An exciting opportunity has arisen for a postdoctoral electrophysiologist within the Auditory Cortical Circuits Lab in the Academic Unit, Mental Health and Clinical Neuroscience. The position is based at Hearing Sciences, University Park Campus. 

Overall, Hearing Sciences contains sixteen research teams and is known for the breadth of its methodological expertise, including qualitative and quantitative methodologies, neuroscience, psychology, audiology, medicine, patient and public involvement, policy & priority setting, and digital intervention development, supported by very high-quality Operations, Research Delivery, and Clinical Research teams. The post holder will have many opportunities to interact with everyone across the teams.

The purpose of the role is to study the impact of hearing-loss on auditory neural circuits using techniques such as opto/chemogenetics and electrophysiology. Tasks will include anaesthetising mice (to allow hearing-loss induction via noise exposure) then recovering the mice from anaesthesia and performing health checks, intracranial injections, performing optogenetic/electrophysiological experiments and histology/imaging. 

The post holder will manage, plan and conduct research, resolving problems that arise, write up your research findings and collaborate with colleagues on areas of shared interest. There is also the potential to present your work at conferences and to develop future funding applications.

You must have experience in performing neurosurgery and making neural recordings in rodents. Additionally, you must hold an active Home Office issued Personal Licence for work in rodents. The role is suitable to those close to completion of a PhD or those already at a post-doctoral level.

This is a full-time (36.25 hours per week), fixed-term position to 30th June 2024.
