The Faculty of Protestant Theology (FB 1) of the University of Münster (WWU), Germany, invites applications for the following position to commence on 1 October 2023:

W2-level professorship in Religious Studies and Intercultural Theology

(successor to Professor Dr Perry Schmidt-Leukel)

The prospective appointee is expected to represent the entire spectrum of research and teaching activities in the area of religious studies and intercultural theology. This includes, inter alia, the respective foundations and methods of the subject, global history of religion, intercultural hermeneutics and inter-religious dialogue.

We expect the candidate to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration in the Faculty of Protestant Theology and at the University of Münster (for example, with the Centre for Religious Studies (CRS) and the Cluster of Excellence “Religion and Politics”).

The candidate will be required to provide instruction in the area of pastoral study programmes, the Magister Theologiae programme and teaching degree programmes for all school forms offered by the faculty (elementary, secondary and vocational schools, and, starting in 2023, special needs education) in the respective degree programme levels (BA, MEd). The candidate will also participate in the interdisciplinary dual-subject bachelor’s programme “Religious Studies” and the master’s programme “Religious Studies” currently under development at the WWU.

In accordance with § 36 of the NRW Higher Education Act (HG NRW), the prerequisites for this position include a higher education degree, pedagogical aptitude in university teaching and special academic qualification, substantiated by the quality of the candidate’s doctoral degree. The candidate must also provide evidence of further academic achievements, obtained through an assistant professorship (Juniorprofessur), habilitation (postdoctoral qualification), as a member of the academic staff of a university or non-university research institute, or in a research position in business, industry, administration or other relevant field in Germany or abroad. In addition, an international academic perspective and willingness to secure third-party funding are desired.
