The Department of Oral Biology, Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in Oral Biology.  Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The appointment will commence on January 1, 2025, or as soon thereafter as possible.

The successful applicant will be expected to (a) establish and maintain an independent externally funded research program, (b) contribute to Department undergraduate and graduate teaching programs, (c) provide graduate research training opportunities, and (d) participate in service (academic, professional and/or community) to the Department, College, or University. 

The ideal applicant for this position must have a PhD, post-doctoral training and demonstrated evidence of research experience (with peer-reviewed publications) in alignment with current research strengths of the department and College.  The Department is looking to reinforce its strategic directions by recruiting a productive researcher capable of adding synergy through collaboration with the current team of nationally funded principal investigators. 

The applicant should be fluent in English.  For appointment at the Associate Professor level, the ideal applicant must have demonstrated experience in teaching at the graduate level, masters-level research mentorship and evidence of a successful dossier in research, including peer-reviewed publications and success in obtaining independent grant funding. 

The Department of Oral Biology (https://umanitoba.ca/dentistry/oral-biology) is a multidisciplinary academic and research unit in the College of Dentistry.  Its members provide basic science teaching to undergraduate dental and dental hygiene students, graduate students, and clinical residents. Departmental members have research programs in areas of neurosciences, biochemistry, taste biology, microbiology, immunology and craniofacial development. The department hosts the Manitoba Chemosensory Biology Research Group  (https://umanitoba.ca/faculties/health_sciences/dentistry/MCSB/1003.html) and a readily available zebrafish and Mexican tetra fish breeding facility.  The department has strong collaborations with the Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba, CancerCare Manitoba, and the Manitoba Neuroscience Network at the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences.
