The Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) invites applications from highly motivated PhD candidates in the general area antenna design within its Signal Processing and Communications (SIGCOM) research group. SnT carries out interdisciplinary research in secure, reliable and trustworthy ICT systems and services, often in collaboration with industrial, governmental or international partners. The SIGCOM research group is headed by Prof. Symeon Chatzinotas, and mainly carries out research activities in the areas of signal processing for wireless communication systems, including satellite communications, and is currently expanding its research activities towards quantum information systems. Use cases of interest include IoT verticals, unmanned aerial vehicles, integrated satellite-space-terrestrial networks, quantum communications and key distribution, spectrum management and coexistence, tactile Internet, and autonomous transportation.   Your Role...

The successful candidate will join a strong and motivated research team led by Prof. Symeon Chatzinotas and work with Dr. Thang X. Vu in the topic of Physical Layer design and optimization for 6G Non-terrestrial Networks (NTN). The position holder will be required to contribute to the national FNR BRIDGES project Pre5GNR (Design and Implement Multiuser 3GPP 5G New Radio Precoding and Dynamic Beam Management for NGSO Systems) and perform the following tasks:

  • Develop a full-stack simulation platform for multiuser precoding in NTN following 3GPP New Radio specifications
  • Perform simulation of precoding and frequency management in NTN systems, including NGSO Satellites
  • Closely collaborate with the company SES Satellites (Société Européenne des Satellites) regarding the 3GPP precoding in satellite systems
  • Implementation and testing of predefined algorithms on SDR environments
  • Disseminate results through scientific publications in the top-tier venues
  • Coordinating research projects and preparing project deliverables and new research proposals
  • Providing assistance in the supervision of PhD students

  Your Profile...

Qualification: The candidate should possess a Ph.D. degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields.

Experience: The ideal candidate should have some knowledge and experience in some of the following topics:

  • Proven track record and experience in PHY, precoding and multiuser systems
  • Good knowledge on 3GPP New Radio PHY specifications
  • Test-bed design and implementation on Software Defined Radio, OpenAirInterface platforms
  • Wireless and/or Satellite communications
  • Programming skills in at least one of the following: MATLAB, GNURadio/C/C++

Language Skills: Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English are required.
