The University of Luxembourg is an international research university with a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character.

In the context of the Doctoral Training Unit on "Economic Insecurity: Causes, Consequences and Actions" (EICCA) established by the University of Luxembourg (UL) and the Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research (LISER), with the financial support of the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) in the framework of its Program for Research Intensive Doctoral Education (PRIDE), we are currently offering 14 PhD (Doctoral Candidate) positions for a duration of up to three years, with a possible extension to a fourth year.

Your role

EICCA consists of an interdisciplinary group of 14 supervisors affiliated to two Doctoral Schools who present a joint strategy for research and PhD training, and provide an innovative high-quality training environment.

EICCA will train 14 social scientists from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds interested in the quantitative analyses of the causes and consequences of economic insecurity (EI) for individual's lives and society at large, and the understanding of the role that public policies play in mitigating or amplifying the size of these impacts - this is essential for the development of adequate policy actions addressing the rise of insecurity, and therefore the improvement of individual wellbeing.

Your profile

  • Hold a Research Master's degree in Quantitative Economics, Quantitative Sociology, Psychology, Political Science, or Social Sciences depending on the project of choice indicated here ogy.de/db4s
  • Have excellent English language skills, both spoken and written
  • Work in an inter-cultural and international environment
  • Work both independently and as part of a team
  • Be passionate about research

We offer

  • Enrollment as a PhD fellow in the Doctoral School of Economics, Finance and Management or the Doctoral School in Humanities and Social Sciences at UL leading to the completion of a degree of PhD in the discipline of the project

  • Motivation letter outlining the reasons for your application to a PhD and your educational training that prepared you for academic research on the topic of the research project
  • Publication list (if applicable)
  • Two recommendation letters from previous professors
  • Copies of diplomas, transcripts with grades (English translation is required)
  • Proof of English language proficiency (if available)

The motivation letter should identify up to three EICCA research projects (indicated by P1,…,P14 here ogy.de/db4s) of interest (in order of preference).
