About us...

The Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) is an interdisciplinary research centre of the University of Luxembourg. We conduct fundamental and translational research in the field of Systems Biology and Biomedicine – in the lab, in the clinic and in silico. We focus on neurodegeneration and are especially interested in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease and their contributing factors.

The LCSB recruits talented scientists from various disciplines. Successful candidates will join the Bioinformatics Core, led by Prof. Reinhard Schneider, which focuses on managing and analysing complex biomedical and clinical data. We are internationally recognized for our GDPR compliant data hosting solutions and data management systems. We develop innovative methodologies for data mining, federated data analysis, and data FAIRification. The position is part of the COMMUTE project, funded by Horizon Europe. The project will employ computational modelling and Artificial Intelligence approaches to accelerate research on neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer’s (AD) and Parkinson’s diseases (PD).

  Your Role...

• Constructing a scalable knowledge repository of molecular interactions describing disease mechanisms using graph databases
• Translating, harmonising and integrating the contents across multiple systems biology repositories like pathway and interaction databases, or disease maps (https://disease-maps.org/)
• Research of contextualised mining of such integrated repository for networks describing relevant mechanisms of neurodegeneration, including cell specificity and potential drug targets as prior information

  What we expect from you…

• A PhD in computer science, computational biology, bioinformatics, biomedicine or similar, with an interest in biomedical informatics and translational medicine
• Experience with graph databases, in particular neo4j
• Experience with systems biology formats, including SBML and SBGN
• Working knowledge of pathway, protein interaction and drug interaction databases
• Strong programming skills
• Experience in omics data analysis will be an asset
• Knowledge of controlled terminologies and ontologies in Systems Biomedicine will be an asset
• Experience of collaborative research, research management and project management
• Strong problem solving and interpersonal skills
• Ability to effectively organize, prioritize and execute tasks in a highly dynamic environment
• Excellent communication skills in English and the ability to articulate clearly the scientific and technical needs and to work within an interdisciplinary setting, communicating with other internal and external partners
