The Department of Life Sciences and Medicine (DLSM) at the University of Luxembourg combines research groups led by biomedical scientists with technological platforms and models on different scales, covering in silico, in vitro and in vivo models in addition to patients and family studies as essential elements of research strategy. The department also closely cooperates with the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB), an interdisciplinary centre of the University of Luxembourg, combining experimental, medical and computational approaches to analyze complex biological systems and disease processes.

 Your Role...

To support our translational biomedical research unit, the DLSM is currently looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher. The candidate will perform research at the Team of Medicine.  

Activities

  • Explore, develop and conduct scientific concepts for clinical and experimental research projects with focus on, but not exclusively, chronic inflammatory, metabolic diseases and neurodegeneration
  • A particular focus will rely on the impact of the microbiome, caloric restriction, fasting and fasting mimicking on chronic non-communicable diseases
  • Plan and conduct experiments in the context of clinical research such as gathering and processing of patient derived material, analysis of samples using standard and high throughput biomedical methodologies
  • Analyze and interpret results and data obtained, especially in liaising with computational biology experts and prepare result report documentation
  • Write regularly progress reports, prepare document research projects, contribute to manuscripts from scientific results, prepare presentations for internal and external scientific meetings and grant proposals
  • Develop and prepare teaching activities for practical's, lectures and tutorials

Clinical focus:

  • Engage in relationship management with partners, both internally and externally, patient recruitment, pre-and postanalytical handling of samples

Laboratory focus:

  • You may participate in clinical and laboratory research, design and conduct experiments

 What we expect from you…

  • MD, PhD or MSc or equivalent diploma in natural sciences (preferably medicine, human biology, biochemistry)
  • Knowledge of molecular biology and medical (patho)physiology
  • Ability to write papers, reports and grant applications
  • Good self-organisational and communication skills for a small team
  • Flexibility to quickly adapt to new tasks (multitasking)
  • Ability to travel to cooperation partners within the greater region (UniGR)
  • Contribute to fund attraction activities
  • Assist and/or contribute in teaching activities
  • Support in the supervision of PhD/master/bachelor students
  • Good knowledge and command in English, French and German would be of advantage

Depending on focus:

  • Experience in clinical study management/project management is desirable or
  • Background in laboratory research including handling/experimentation with laboratory animals desirable
  • Experience in or previous exposure to bioinformatics would be an asset
  • Fluency in English mandatory, and good level of French and German is desired
