The Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology conducts high-quality research and education in chemical sciences and molecular life sciences. Our research and education focuses on a deep understanding of chemical and biological processes in cells and in the environment. We are responsible for postgraduate education in the subject area Natural Sciences with a focus on chemistry, biophysics, biology and educational science. In addition, the department hosts educational programs in molecular biology, genomics and systems biology, chemistry, organic chemistry and pharmaceutical chemistry, as well as prescription education. The department is an international environment with interdisciplinary collaborations in both research and education and contributes strongly to the University of Gothenburg's top ranking in life science. We are located in central premises at Natrium, Medicinareberget, Gothenburg.

NanoSIMS Sweden is a facility at the University of Gothenburg. It was founded in 2015 with the goal to provide mass spectrometry imaging technology with nanoscale spatial resolution to researchers in Sweden. Since then, it has expanded its services to researchers across the Nordic region. NanoSIMS Sweden aims to be an extensive molecular and elemental imaging platform with the focus on life science and medical science. NanoSIMS is a unique secondary ion nanoprobe in the Nordics, with capabilities to measure elemental, isotopic, inorganic, organic to biomolecular distributions in all kinds of samples with excellent sensitivity (ppm). 2D/3D imaging can be performed with excellent spatial resolution (~50 nm laterally, ~10 nm axially). NanoSIMS can be applied to address questions in various research fields, especially materials, geological, marine, enviromental, medical and life science. Our facility always pushes to offer the most competent and reliable service, from consultation in experimental design, training to image acquisition and data mining, ensuring the highest quality of data obtained for each project in various fields.
