Description

The Department of Industrial Management, Industrial Design, and Mechanical Engineering is seeking a Senior Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering with a specialisation in product design, production technology, or quality management. The department conducts education and research in industrial management, industrial design, and mechanical engineering. A common starting point for our activities is to develop knowledge about industrial products, services, and processes with regard to social, economic, and ecological sustainability. The department has strong ties to the surrounding community, and students, teaching staff, and researchers collaborate closely with industry and government agencies. The position is a permanent full-time appointment or as per agreement. A probationary period may be applied.

Job duties

As a Senior lecturer in Mechanical Engineering, you will dedicate your working time to both teaching and research, as well as to collaboration. Teaching responsibilities include planning, conducting, evaluating, and developing courses at both first-cycle and second-cycle levels. Courses are offered both on-campus and online, and are conducted in both Swedish and English. Research responsibilities include initiating, conducting, and reporting research, supervising doctoral students, and applying for and securing research funding. An important part of the role is to contribute to increasing external funding for research and enhancing collaboration with the surrounding community. Your workplace will be at the University of Gävle, and the majority of your working time will be on campus.

Qualifications

The requirements for the position include a a doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering or another subject deemed equivalent by the employer, with a specialisation in product design, production technology, or quality management. To be eligible for the position of Senior Lecturer, you must also demonstrate pedagogical proficiency. Additionally, you should have:

  • Experience in teaching activities, including planning, execution (teaching and examination), evaluation, and development of study programmes and courses.
  • Completed higher education pedagogical training equivalent to at least 10 weeks of full-time study or acquired equivalent knowledge in other ways.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both spoken and written English.
  • Ability to collaborate and build good relationships internally and externally. The teaching profession offers considerable freedom in organising one's work. Hence, the candidate needs to demonstrate good initiative and independence.

Further requirements can be found in the Higher Education Ordinance (Chapter 4, Section 4a) and the Appointment Regulations (HIG-STYR 2019/153) at the University of Gävle.

It is advantageous if you have :

  • Ability to initiate, conduct, and report high-quality scientific research.
  • Ability to apply for and obtain external research funding and manage own research projects.
  • Ability to collaborate within relevant national or international research networks and with the surrounding community.
  • Experience in supervising doctoral students.
  • Experience in distance learning.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both spoken and written Swedish.

When appointing the position, consideration will also be given to how the candidate can strengthen and complement the department's research and teaching within the subject area.

The evaluation of pedagogical skills will be given equal consideration as the evaluation of scientific skills.
