YOUR TASKS

The professorship is a part of Neuroscience reseach area at the Medical Faculty. The successful candidate will actively participate in teaching of Neuroscience for medical students and in related teaching programs of the Medical Faculty. The primary objective of the new appointment is the development of an internationally competitive research program that is strongly complementing the focus research areas of the Medical Faculty. Close interactions with Collaborative Research Centers and Research Units of the DFG on campus, the local Max Planck Institutes for Biology of Ageing and Metabolism Research, the Cologne Excellence Cluster CECAD and centers such as the Cologne Center for Genomics (CCG), the Center for Integrated Oncology (CIO), the Center of Molecular Medicine Cologne (CMMC) as well as the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) and the Research Center Jülich are expected.

YOUR PROFILE

The successful candidate is expected to have an outstanding record of academic achievements in cellular or systems neurophysiology and/or neurosciences. Scientific excellence, a particular commitment to teaching Neuroscience and the motivation to actively contribute to the development of the model university course of the Faculty of Medicine are presumed.

Social skills, the capacity to work in multidisciplinary teams, to apply for third-party research funds and to initiate joint research projects are prerequisites. Further requirements for application include a postdoctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation) or equivalent

The position is available at the earliest possible date. Formal requirements are detailed in Section 36 of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (Hochschulgesetz – HG NRW). As a rule, the teaching load comprises nine semester hours per week (i.e., two hours per week is one 90-minute course per semester).
