The research groups Cosys-Lab, Faculty of Applied Engineering, and Ansymo, Faculty of Sciences, are looking for a full-time (100%) doctoral scholarship holder in the field of cyber-physical systems.
Position
- You prepare a PhD on development methods for cyber-physical systems, with a focus on co-design and consistency management across different engineering activities. You will work with formal workflow modelling as well as with ontological relationships between e.g. software engineering, mechanical engineering, control engineering, etc. The application domain of the research is oriented towards mechatronic applications such as vehicles and industrial machines.
- You contribute to ongoing research projects on these topics. You interact with other research institutions. You interact with industry partners involved in the research projects.
- You publish scientific articles related to the research project.
- You assist in teaching tasks for both Cosys-Lab and Ansymo. (e.g. lab sessions, student exercises, bachelor and master thesis supervision).
Profile
- You hold a Master degree in Industrial Sciences Electronics or Computer Engineering, Engineering Electronics or Computer Engineering, Informatics, Mathematics, Physics or another equivalent Master degree, or you will have obtained it by the time you start work.
- You can demonstrate excellent study results.
- We also encourage international researchers to apply.
- You have excellent skills in informatics. Experience in modelling or in artificial intelligence (and more concretely in ontologies, Bayesian networks, …) is not mandatory but is regarded as a plus.
- You are motivated to dig deeper in the world of development methods and tools for mechatronic systems. Knowledge on embedded systems and embedded software is a plus.
- You have a broad basic engineering knowledge to collaborate with other researchers on the design of cyber-physical systems.
- Prior research experience (published papers, conferences attended, …) is regarded as a plus.
- Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies.
- You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.
- You can speak and write fluently in English.
What we offer
- We offer a doctoral scholarship for a period of one year with possibilities to extension up to 4 years after positive evaluation.
- The planned start date is as soon as possible, and latest on 1 October 2023.
- Your monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to the scholarship amounts for doctoral scholarship holders on the pay scales for Contract Research Staff (Dutch: Bijzonder Academisch Personeel, BAP).
- You will receive ecocheques, Internet-connectivity allowance, and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
- You will do most of your work at Campus Groenenborger and/or at Campus Middelheim in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.
- You will closely interact with Flanders Make, the Flemish strategic research centre for the manufacturing industry.
