The University of Kassel has established the interdisciplinary Research Training Group (RTG) “Biological Clocks on Multiple Time Scales”, which is funded by the German Research foundation since April 2022. The RTG is investigating the principles of timekeeping in living organisms, enabling to orchestrate periodic processes with very different frequencies ranging from infradian over circadian to ultradian rhythms. This unique approach combines the expertise of biologists, physicists, chemists, mathematicians, and engineers to advance the understanding of biological clocks.

The RTG seeks to fill the following position:

1 Research Assistant (PhD position) (m/f/d)

with a strong interest in mathematics for Project P9 under the supervision of Prof. Elfriede Friedmann in the field of Numerics and Mathematical Modeling. The 75%-position according to the pay-scale EG 13 TV-H is limited to 36 months (§ 2 Abs. 1 Satz 1 WissZeitVG).

-  Starting from April 1, 2025. 
- Closes: 29.10.2024 and until the position is filled
- Date of Hire: 01.04.2025

Tasks:
- Independent active research within Project P9: models & simulations for new insights into physiology of clocks and ways of adapting it. 
- Active participation in the workshops and events of the RTG and collaboration with the PIs and other PhD candidates. 
- Completion of a study program according to the curriculum of the research training group.

Required Profile:
- Completed academic degree in mathematics. 
-  Advanced knowledge in ordinary and partial differential equations, numerical methods for differential equations, finite element methods
-  Excellent programming skills
-  Strong commitment to interdisciplinary research and education. 
-  Very good command of the English language.
- Of advantage: Experiences thematically related to the scope of the RTG or to the projects as chosen.
