Job description

The Centre for Public and Social Law of the ULB (http://droit-public.ulb.be) is offering a full-time position for an assistant as of 1 October 2025.

The assistant will be involved in research, teaching and community service. As to research, the person recruited will be primarily involved in conducting doctoral research and writing publications. He/she will also be required to support or participate in research activities conducted within the Centre. At the same time, she will be involved in teaching, taking charge of practical work groups (see below, "Teaching to be supervised"). In this capacity, he/she will also have to assume the various tasks incumbent on members of the scientific body of the Faculty (supervision and correction of exams, presence at student fairs and open days, involvement in faculty life, etc.).

The mandate of full-time assistant is granted for an initial term of 2 years, renewable after the evaluation of the competent bodies for two other periods of 2 years, i.e. a total duration of 6 years. As the objective of each term is to construct and finalise a doctoral thesis, the tasks will be equally divided between research, teaching and participation in the management of the Center or the Faculty. These tasks may be reviewed at regular intervals.

Teaching to be supervised :

A full-time teaching assistant's mandate implies the delivery of a minimum of 120 hours of practical work per academic year, i.e. the taking in charge of at least 5 groups for a maximum of 24 hours each (or a higher number when the practical work related to a course is limited to 12 hours).

The practical work is likely to be given mainly in support of the first year general bachelor's degree courses in public law or social law. They will be determined according to both the needs to be filled and the profile recruited.

Required qualifications and skills:

Required educational level: Master level in law

Main Research Field: law

Sub Research Field: public and/or social law

The proposed doctoral research must be on a subject related to the various themes covered by the ULB's public law and social law teams. The Centre's main research axes can be consulted on its website (http://droit-public.ulb.be).

Required Languages:

French: excellent

English: at least excellent passive knowledge

Dutch: at least excellent passive knowledge

Additional strengths are: relevant professional experience; a second degree; a master's degree in a specialization; active knowledge of Dutch and English (or other languages).
