A full-time academic in Veterinary Medicine

UCLouvain organizes the bachelor's degree (1st degree) in veterinary medicine (duration: 3 years) on its Louvain-la-Neuve site. The master's degree in veterinary medicine is not organized at UCLouvain.
Within the Faculty of Science and the Louvain Institute of Biomolecular Science and Technology, Science and Technology Sector, this position will include the following teaching, research and community service duties:
You will teach mainly in the field of veterinary anatomy in the bachelor's degree in veterinary medicine. You will also organize and supervise the practical exercises related to these teachings. You will participate with other academics in the supervision of works, seminars and trainings organized within the framework of the bachelor in veterinary medicine. A minor participation in the teaching provided to students in biology, bioengineering or pharmacy, as well as in the certification in laboratory animal science for scientists conducting or directing experiments on animals may be asked.
You will also be expected to supervise Master’s theses.
You will develop your research activities, including research programme management, within the Institute or a research Institute located on the site of Louvain-la-Neuve.
You will have access to the available technological platforms, such as for imaging and microscopy or for mass spectrometry analyses and to the animal facilities or the university farms.
You will be responsible for the supervision of PhD theses.
Once tenured, you will carry out various service activities and responsibilities within the institution, such as being a member of a programme committee or examination committee, or having management responsibilities within the faculty or research institute.
You will also contribute to serving society, particularly in the economic, social, cultural or development cooperation fields. Finally, you will ensure, through research and teaching activities, the university’s international visibility.
You have a master degree in veterinary medicine recognized in Belgium, as well as a PhD in Veterinary Science (or in a domain that can be considered as equivalent).
You have extended experience abroad or at least outside your home institution.
You have a proven track record in university teaching, with evidence where possible by formal evaluations. Your scientific experience is demonstrated by publications of international standing.
You are comfortable working as part of a team of academics and integrate research results into your teaching. You are capable of conducting high-level scientific research, from obtaining funding to team management. You are creative, open to pedagogical innovation and multidisciplinary.You can communicate in French and English. If this is not the case, you undertake to acquire a command of these two languages within two years of taking up your position. Knowledge of other languages is an asset.
Specifically:
Having experience in teaching veterinary anatomy and/or graduating from a European college recognized by the European Board of Veterinary Specialization constitute(s) (an) additional asset(s).
