at the Institute of Agricultural Sciences in the Tropics (Hans-Ruthenberg-Institute) to be filled in as soon as possible.
The professorship will represent the field of “Livestock and Rangeland Systems in the Tropics and Subtropics” in research and teaching.
The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research into the systems of sustainable development of livestock and rangeland systems in the tropics and subtropics. The aim is to research the interactions between tropical, primarily pastoral livestock farming and climate change, biodiversity and food security while developing innovative approaches to resolve conflicting objectives. The focus will be on empirical research at the herd and landscape level, whereby modeling can also be used. The successful candidate must be qualified in at least one of the livestock science areas of feeding, rangeland management, husbandry systems, breeding, or animal health management and have a record of independent innovative research as well as empirical research experience in tropical agricultural systems. It is expected that the professor will engage in inter- and transdisciplinary cooperation with research groups within the institute and the university as well as with international research organizations and non-scientific actors.
We are seeking an individual with a demonstrated history of internationally recognized research and a record of high-ranking, relevant publications in the field, as well as the capacity to acquire third-party funding.
The successful candidate is to offer courses taught in English on livestock and rangeland systems in the tropics and subtropics for the B.Sc., M.Sc., and doctoral programs. For international applicants, the professor is expected to have or acquire German language skills within a reasonable period of time in order to be able to offer courses taught in German for the B.Sc. degree programs.
The position offers attractive conditions for first-time full professor appointees. Prerequisites for applicants are habilitation or an equivalent research and teaching record which may have been established during a Junior or Assistant Professorship.
