The position in accordance with Section 28 subsection 3 of the Hamburg higher education act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG) commences on 1. June 2019.
This is a fixed-term contract in accordance with Section 2 of the academic fixed-term labor contract act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG). The term is fixed for a period of 3 years.
Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.
The project is a joint effort of experiment and theory and will be conducted by two PhD students. The theory work (advertised here) will be based in Hamburg and the experimental work at the University Erlangen-Nürnberg. Both students are expected to frequently exchange information and to visit each other’s facility.
The candidate should develop the theoretical and computational framework necessary for the calculation of the resonant Raman signal in colloidal semiconductor nanoparticles. Starting from "standard" DFT calculations of electronic and vibrational properties of very small nanoclusters, the method should be expanded to treat larger structure, such as encountered in the experimental setup. A detailed roadmap of the project exists.
A university degree in a relevant field. A master's degree in theoretical physics or theoretical chemistry with emphasis on numerical ab-initio atomistic approaches. Some knowledge of electron-phonon or vibronic coupling, as well as programming experience, would be advantageous.
