The Electrical Engineering Unit of the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences at Tampere University is looking for University Lecturer in Electrical Engineering with specialization to electric energy engineering. 

The Electrical Engineering Unit of the faculty is a hub of expertise with roughly 150 faculty and staff members, of which 16 professors and 7 tenure track professors. We confer about 100 master’s degrees and 10-15 doctoral degrees on an annual basis. Our teaching and research activities are based on a profound understanding of electrical and electromagnetic phenomena and their modelling and applications. We work in close collaboration with several industrial partners and maintain an active presence in the international scientific community. We also offer an excellent research infrastructure with state-of-the-art laboratories.
   Our broad areas of expertise are:

  • electronics and embedded systems
  • wireless communications and communication networks
  • radio positioning and sensing
  • electrical energy engineering and smart grids
  • power electronics and electromechanics

Job description

We are seeking highly motivated and accomplished applicants for teaching in the field of electrical engineering. We especially welcome applicants who can complement our current teaching and research profile. Your background is taken into consideration in the assignment of the specific teaching areas, while the purpose is to also offer flexible ways to be actively part in scientific research.

Your primary role is to participate in planning and execution of the curriculum in collaboration within the unit. You are expected to plan, prepare and organize teaching, supervise BSc and MSc theses and act as a tutor for the students. You will work in a multidisciplinary and international environment where the interest in developing teaching methods and students’ learning experience is highly appreciated. We have modern teaching and research facilities and we encourage employees to actively seek professional growth, for example, by attending pedagogical training courses available at the University. Although the position is teaching oriented, participation in research is also supported and encouraged. 

Field specific job description

The subject area is within renewable energy, sector integration technologies and solutions for the future electrical energy system. Sector integration should be understood broadly including energy production, delivery, storage and usage of electricity, heating and cooling, transportation and logistics, hydrogen economy, industrial processes and services. Knowledge and interest of European electricity markets and roles and interests of market stakeholders are considered additional merit. Your background is taken into consideration in the assignment of the specific teaching areas, and the job may also include participation to the teaching of fundamentals of electrical engineering. The position requires strong organizational and collaboration skills and a good command of English.


For the University Lecturer position, we require:

  • applicable doctoral degree
  • ability to provide high-quality research-based education and instruction
  • a minimum of 10 credits in university pedagogy (or other equivalent studies). If you have not completed these studies when joining the University, we expect you to complete them within two years from the beginning of the employment. We have pedagogical studies available for all our teaching staff, free of charge.

We offer

The position will be filled on a permanent basis, commencing in January 2023 or as mutually agreed. Appointments will be subject to the satisfactory completion of a trial period of 6 months.

The salary is based on job demands and employees’ personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. The position of university lecturer is initially placed at levels 6-7 in the salary system. In addition, employees receive performance-based salary. Typical starting salary for the university lecturer will be around €4,200- €4,700/month. A higher salary may be agreed upon based on the successful candidate’s experience and/or performance.
