YOUR FUTURE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • You will be part of SAL’s AI research team, responsible for shaping our research and pushing boundaries by developing and testing resilient and trustworthy AI in applied research projects with industrial and scientific partners and colleagues of other units at SAL.
  • You will be responsible for proposing research projects, both directly with industrial partners or in public funding frameworks (eg., FFG, Horizon EU), as well as their technical and organizational implementation.
  • You present scientific results to colleagues, executive managers and at conferences.
  • You publish research in journals, books but also are responsible for writing reports, reviews and summaries.
  • As part of your role, you chair or co-chair conference workshops and individual events.
  • In your role, you will seek and expand collaborations with university and industrial research and/or production staff.
  • To support the new generation in research, you support and guide junior researchers, as well as PhD students of the team.
  • You are expected to continuously improve your technical expertise in the field. SAL will support you by facilitating trainings and other means.

YOUR PROFILE

  • PhD in computer science, robotics, electrical engineering, applied mathematics, data science, physics, or a related field
  • Passion to dive deep to resolve problems at their root
  • Extensive knowledge and proven track record in Machine Learning, both classical (SVMs, decision trees, …) and deep learning (LSTMs, CNNs, transformers, …); specific experience in computer vision and / or reinforcement learning is considered advantageous.
  • Several years of experience in managing complex research projects as well as proven competence in leading and developing teams in a research environment.
  • Good networking in international research and / or industry in the field of machine learning
  • Strong communication, presentation and (academic) writing skills
  • Very good proficiency in English; proficiency in German is advantageous but not necessary
  • Advanced programming skills in Python
  • Experience with code management tooling such as Git (Gitlab).
  • Experience with frameworks such as Scikit-learn and PyTorch
  • Experience in applying statistical techniques to analyze data, detect data shifts, sample and select datasets.

This position is subject to the Collective Agreement for employees in non-university research (Research CA) starting in occupational group F (F1 salary = EUR 4.226, paid 14 times a year) based on 38,5 hours per week). For this position we offer competitive salaries and additional benefits based on your experience and qualifications, starting with a minimum salary of EUR 70.000 (annual, based on an All-in contract and bonus).
