Young Investigator – AREA OF INTEREST: NANOTECHNOLOGY APPLYED TO AQUACULTURE

1 - Description of the Institute, specific area of interest and funding source

The mission of the Instituto de Pesca is related to the responsibility of the use of living aquatic resources through the development of technology for sustainable aquaculture and fisheries, as well as the improvement of the quality of human life. Our infrastructure includes laboratories and experimental aquaculture ponds for trials. The current research interests includes the development of innovative nanoscience technologies to develop new products and processes suitable for the use in aquaculture, as well as studying the complexity of nanoparticles in the aquatic environment.

We are looking for a passionate and dedicate Young Investigator interested in developing innovation within the area of nanosciences, including the development of new nanomaterials for application in Aquaculture.

The Project will be funded by São Paulo Research Foundation – FAPESP (www.fapesp.br/en), through its Young Investigator Award Program (http://fapesp.br/en/4479). The award will be provided as a Research Grant with the maximum duration of 48 months. The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP Young Investigator Fellowship in the amount of R$ 8.152,20 monthly free of Income Taxes. The peer reviewed Project of the selected Young Investigator may receive a Research Grant as described in: http://fapesp.br/en/4479.

2 - Position Summary and required experience:

2.1 Position Summary and expected research focus.

The research focus is related to the following  topics: 1) development of vaccines for fish, nanocapsules for nutritional management of fish, nanofilters and nanosensors for quality control of water, etc.; 2) Study of the ecological aspects on the transfer of nanomaterials between different trophic levels within the aquatic ecosystem, checking out the biological effects in aquatic organisms, as biodistribution, biomagnification and bioaccumulation; 3) Nanotoxicology related to the interaction of nanoparticles with aquaculture, to investigate the response of aquatic organisms (especially those which are managed in aquaculture and model species) to nanomaterials by exploring biochemical and molecular biology tools.

2.2 Your profile and required skills:

PhD in Biological Sciences (Molecular biology/Biochemistry), with experience in biochemistry, chemical ecology, molecular biology, and bioassays. The candidate must have a background on Nanotechnology, with focus on the interaction of nanomaterials with biological systems. Language skills: English, Spanish and/or Portuguese.

The pre-selected candidates will be asked to submit a full research Project by October 31, 2018 and the final decision will be posted in www.pesca.sp.gov.br  by December 31, 2018.
