The role & key responsibilities
The Associate Lecturer, Digital Media is expected to contribute to the teaching and research efforts of the University, in disciplines related to their field of expertise including:
- Undergraduate teaching including designing, conducting and moderating assessment; implementing improvements informed by peer review, course evaluation and/or student feedback.
- Undertake independent professional activities, scholarship and/or conduct high quality research activities appropriate to the profession or discipline including: managing individual projects within timelines and budgets and ensuring compliance with quality and reporting requirements; publishing research results in high quality outlets as lead or co-author; preparing and submitting external research funding applications; and supervising higher degree by research candidates.
- Undertake administration duties, which may include course coordination role or management of a small award program.
- Participate in University governance activities as requested and undertake administration related to the position.
- Adhere to the Academic Expectations and Development Framework of RMIT Vietnam.
Key selection criteria
- Proven proficiency in two or more of the following:
- Digital 2D or 3D animation
- Visual effects
- 3D motion graphics
- Colour grading
- 3D digital modeling and sculpting
- Interactive experience design using either Unity or Unreal
- Multimedia design
- Sound design for digital media
- Creative coding
- The ability to adapt to the rapidly changing landscape of digital media
- The ability to lecture on the topic of digital media history/theory
- Ability to undertake course coordination role.
- Demonstrated capacity to work effectively with and negotiate sensitively with students, especially on issues related to effective learning.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills appropriate for interacting with higher degree by research candidates, staff and industry, together with a strong commitment to teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Recent and sustained performance regarding student outcomes, student experience and feedback; combined with experience and skill in a range of teaching settings.
- Ability to operate within own discipline and cross-disciplinary/multidisciplinary teams to achieve department and University strategic outcomes.
- Ability to work with external partners, industries, organisations and communities and can operate effectively to address complex issues or seek opportunities.
- Ability to motivate, develop and inspire others through discipline leadership in the University environment
- Ability to display appropriate behaviours in line with the position as per the RMIT Behavioural Capability Framework (Connectedness, Commitment to Excellence – Improve and Simplify; Imagination and Innovation; Impact; Inclusion; Agility).
Qualifications and Checks
- Mandatory: A Master degree in the relevant discipline; have commenced or enrolled to commence in Doctoral course is preferred.
- English Proficiency: English – IELTS 7.0 with no band less than 6.5 (or equivalent. English Language Proficiency may also be proven by having completed PhD studies while being instructed through the medium of English, and proof of teaching in an English-speaking environment during the previous 24 months.

- To be eligible to be considered for the Lecturer role, you will need a PhD or equivalent relevant Doctoral qualification. And to be able to evidence to date, a strong and consistent background in relevant international research with a strong publications’ portfolio. Demonstrated ability to supervise higher-degree research candidates. Ability to build effective networks with colleagues and generate alternative funding projects through effective liaison with industry and government.
- As an expatriate candidate you will require a work permit to be employed in Vietnam. To qualify for a work permit, you will need a PhD or Master’s Degree qualification, and you will need to be able to demonstrate at least 03 years of teaching across relevant subjects in a tertiary education environment.
