University Professor (f/m/d)

for the subject area of

Resource Mineralogy 

pursuant to § 98 of the Austrian University Act (UG) 2002

is to be filled in the form of an unlimited employment contract under public law in accordance with the Salaried Employees Act, on a full-time employment basis.

Montanuniversität Leoben is seeking a personality of international scientific standing who will represent the field of ‘Resource Mineralogy’ in research and teaching. 

Future research activities will focus on investigations into the properties of primary mineral raw materials with a focus on socially relevant raw materials, in particular critical mineral raw materials, strategic raw materials and raw materials for the energy transition. The core competence of mineralogical-chemical and structural characterisation of geomaterials (as used, for example, for the analytical proof of origin of raw materials) is to be further expanded at the Chair. The existing mineralogical/geochemical/experimental laboratories for microanalysis are to be further developed by the new professorship and supplemented with innovative analytical methods and new experimental approaches.

The candidate should be a person of international academic standing who represents the entire discipline with a focus on the above-mentioned core areas in research and teaching.

The entire subject area is currently represented in teaching, particularly for students of the Bachelor's degree programmes ‘Applied Geosciences’, ‘Mineral Resources Engineering’ and ‘Geoenergy Engineering’ as well as the Master's degree programmes ‘Applied Geosciences’ and ‘International Master of Science in Applied and Exploration Geophysics’. The Chair of Resource Mineralogy and the Department of Applied Geosciences and Geophysics are involved in international education and research programmes; the languages of instruction at the department for students at Bachelor's, Master's and doctoral level are German and English.

Great importance is attached to the willingness to co-operate with the other chairs of the Department of Applied Geosciences and Geophysics and other chairs of the Center of Excellence for Materials at the Montanuniversität Leoben.

Employment requirements are a relevant doctorate, a habilitation or an equivalent scientific qualification.

Applicants are expected to have teaching and research experience as well as the didactic skills to organise excellent teaching and to have demonstrated experience in the conception and management of research projects or the ability to apply their knowledge to business problems in the course of their previous professional activities. Leadership skills and in particular the ability to work in a team as well as the willingness to take on organisational and administrative tasks within the university are required.

Residency in the Greater Leoben area is desired.

Pay scale classification is in the A 1 bracket in accordance with the Collective Agreement for University Employees. In this bracket, the monthly salary stipulated for full-time employment in the collective agreement is € 6.362,50 gross (14 times per year). Given appropriate qualification, a higher salary may be negotiated.
