Job description:

The College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences (CAES) at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University University (UM6P) is seeking applications for a full-time Associate Professor in the field of biometrics and agricultural statistics.

The successful candidate is expected to participate in an interdisciplinary team to develop and lead research programs on applied statistics in breeding and agronomical research.

Candidates should have research experience in biometrics and statistical genetics, quantitative genetics and molecular breeding.

Priority will be given to the candidates having research experience and publication record in the field of plant breeding, molecular breeding and biometrics.

Interest in and ability to contribute to interdisciplinary research collaborations in one or more areas central to the UM6P Agricultural Sciences strategic plan is expected.

Ability to engage professionally with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students across the university and externally is required.

Evidence of research and teaching excellence is expected. Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written, are required

Key duties:

Successful candidates are expected to:

  • Contribute to the development of the state of art statistical and biometrical methods.
  • Perform experimental design for breeding and agronomic programs, testing, data analysis and documenting processes, tools and algorithms.
  • Enable R&D capability and strengthen skills for predictive process and data driven decision making
  • Develop the expertise in terms of quantitative genetics, statistical and mathematical consultancies, coding and computing.
  • Develop a strategy to integrate tools in an R platform and train the university staff for using it. Support and drive innovative projects and ensure freedom to operate FTO.
  • Generate external research funds to support and maintain integrated research programs. Establish collaboration and partnerships with industrial institutions.
  • Supervise graduate students, develop teaching materials and attract high level-students. Publish in well ranked and high impact journals in the field.
  • Teach the principles of sciences in design of experiments and statistical analysis, data mining, quantitative genetics.

Criteria of the candidate :

  • PhD degree in statistics or biometrics, quantitative genetics, plant or animal breeding or similar discipline.
  • At least 10 years’ experience in the field of statistics or biometrics, quantitative genetic, plant or animal breeding or similar discipline
  • Strong expertise in statistical software and methods (R, Bayesian computing, etc.). High publication record in leading international and well ranked journals
  • Strong experience in teaching and supervising students and postdocs Significant research record and leadership
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English UM6P.
