Tasks and job requirements

You will be responsible for the development and profile of the new “Knowledge to Society” major. You will represent the major both within the Master of Arts in Fine Arts (MFA) programme and externally. Working closely with the head of the MFA programme, you will be responsible for the conception, organisation, implementation and development of this major. As a professor with an artistic background, you will teach and mentor students in the field of visual arts and media, with special focus on the intersections of art, society and science (from natural sciences to engineering, to the humanities, social sciences and medicine). In addition, you will be responsible for one of the MFA programme's cross-major StudioLabs.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Organisation of and subject responsibility for the major as per agreement with the head of the MFA programme.
  • Thematic and didactic responsibility for the major, specifically for selecting and developing teaching content and formats; responsibility for one of the cross-major StudioLabs.
  • Teaching and supervising artistic projects and master's theses in visual media and methods (Critical Image Practices).
  • Assuring teaching quality.
  • Maintaining a national and international network of partners within academia and civil society, particularly in the field of science mediation and in the art and culture sectors.
  • Student recruitment and promotion of the programme.
  • Collaboration within the MFA programme's core team.
  • Involvement in the development of the MFA programme and of the department itself, as well as participation in inter-university activities.

Your profile

  • You have a distinguished career of international renown as an artist or artistic mediator at the intersection of science and society. You have well-documented expertise in critical image-making practices, including the associated methods and media (time-based, photographic and/or digitally generated images).
  • You have extensive experience in realising transdisciplinary projects with stakeholders from science, science mediation and the visual arts.
  • You maintain an excellent national and international network in the field of the major.
  • You are a good communicator, work well in a team and hold at least a master's degree or, preferably, a PhD.
  • You have teaching experience in higher education and, ideally, a certificate in Higher Education Teaching (this can be acquired during employment).
  • You bring an understanding of diversity, equality and inclusion, especially as it applies to studies at a university of design, film and art.
  • Research experience/qualifications within the subject area of the major are welcome.
  • You are highly proficient in English and/or German.
