The PhD position will be situated within the Soft Matter, Rheology and Technology division, Centre for Industrial Process Technology and Polymer Processing Engineering lab, located on the Diepenbeek campus. Project

The applicant will engage in fundamental exploratory projects aimed at developing innovative solutions for plastic waste recycling. The research will encompass a wide array of experimental activities, including polymer synthetic modifications, polymer characterization, rheology, and polymer processing.
The candidate's responsibilities will include: 
1. Acquiring relevant background knowledge from literature
2. Proposing an experimental plan to address the research questions
3. Building experimental setups
4. Conducting experiments
5. Analyzing data
6. Reporting and presenting findings
This project is part of a broader initiative involving leading universities and will include multidisciplinary collaborations and interactions with the industry.

Profile

We seek a motivated candidate with a MSc degree in Chemical Engineering, strong academic performance, and a passion for polymers and recycling. Knowledge and experience with polyolefins, polymer characterization techniques, and polymer recycling will be considered highly advantageous for this position. Proficiency in English (both written and verbal) for scientific communication is essential. Strong motivation and the ability to conduct independent research are crucial elements.

Offer

The successful candidate will be offered a PhD fellowship to join our team and pursue a PhD degree. This full-time position has an initial duration of one year, with the possibility of extension based on candidate’s performance. The ultimate goal is to obtain the PhD within four years period.
