In the context of further development of research expertise and teaching, the Biomedical Sciences Group at Campus Kulak in Kortrijk has the following full-time vacancy at the Faculty of Medicine. The assignments for this vacancy take place at KU Leuven Kulak in Kortrijk and require a very active presence on the Kulak campus. KU Leuven Kulak offers an interdisciplinary academic environment with an integrated campus concept. In terms of teaching, the Biomedical Sciences Group and the Faculty of Medicine are responsible for the formation of Bachelors in Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. In terms of research, significant research opportunities are provided, including within the Interdisciplinary Research Facility Life Sciences (IRFLs). As a member of the independent academic staff of the Biomedical Sciences Group KU Leuven Kulak, you also belong to the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Transplantation, Faculty of Medicine and Group Biomedical Sciences of KU Leuven.

You are expected to build your own line of research based on experimental or data-driven immunological research. where this research line is expected to connect and complement one or more of the research themes present within the Biomedical Sciences Group at KU Leuven Kulak (Muscles and Movement, Thrombosis and Hemostasis, Data Driven Healthcare). Experience in using artificial intelligence to analyze clinical data is a plus. You strive for excellence in your research, contributing to the continued scientific development of the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Transplantation and the Biomedical Sciences Group at Campus Kulak.
You are open to, and take initiative to collaborate with other researchers both in Kortrijk and Leuven. The development of a research program includes the ability to obtain competitive research funding, build national and international collaborations, supervise doctoral research and publish in internationally renowned journals in your research area.
Your teaching assignment will consist of several course units in the Medicine and Biomedical Sciences programs at KU Leuven Kulak. This assignment can include basic courses as well as more in-depth course units linked to your expertise. The teaching tasks can be adapted over the years in function of the evolution of the educational offer at Kortrijk. The profile of KU Leuven Kulak requires that you have a special interest in educational innovation and teaching quality. You provide high-quality teaching, with a clear commitment to the design of the program as a whole. As a resident staff member, you are easily available to students. Teaching assignments require an immediate and thorough knowledge of Dutch.
You have an eye for regional, national and international cooperation with companies and partners outside the university. You represent our Biomedical Sciences Group in the region and act as liaison between the university and local partners where appropriate. You are involved in one or more extracurricular tasks such as e.g. active participation in consultation meetings, science communication, contact with prospective students....
You have a PhD in Sciences or Biomedical Sciences (including Medicine) or another Life Sciences degree of equivalent level. You have a strong research record with at least a postdoctoral track-record in the field of "immunology". You can substantiate your research expertise with multiple publications in high quality international journals. You have excellent teaching skills so that you can contribute to the quality of the research unit and of the courses which you will teach. Experience in providing academic teaching, with demonstrated didactic qualities, are a plus. You have organizational skills and a collegial attitude. You possess leadership skills in a university context. You are committed to service tasks associated with the promotion of your own research and teaching; and that of the Biomedical Sciences Group at KU Leuven Kortrijk to prospective students and the region. International experience is an important plus.
The official language used at KU Leuven is Dutch. If you do not speak Dutch (or do not speak it well) at the start of employment, KU Leuven will provide language training to enable you to take part in meetings.
Before teaching courses in Dutch or English, you will be given the opportunity to learn Dutch, respectively English, to the required standard.
