Job description

The PDC Center for High Performance computing at KTH is a supercomputing center for academic research in Sweden that operates national supercomputing resources, including the currently fastest academic supercomputer in Sweden, Dardel, a 8.26 Pflop/s HPE Cray EX235a with over 400 GPUs. With leading researchers in their fields, PDC is active in several high-profile European research projects and currently coordinates two EuroHPC Centers of Excellence, BioExcel (with a focus on biomolecular simulations) and CEEC (with a focus on fluid dynamics simulations). PDC is also active in the development of scientific software, e.g. GROMACS, one of the most widely used HPC applications and one of the fastest molecular dynamics (MD) codes, Neko, a portable and highly scalable computational fluid dynamics (CFD) framework nominated for the ACM Gordon Bell prize in 2023, and Veloxchem, a versatile open source quantum chemistry software.

We are looking for an HPC expert to strengthen the HPC Software Research &  Development group at PDC. This position's roles will aim at supporting various stages in the HPC research software life cycle, both traditional scientific simulation/modelling and new integrations with AI for science. Examples of the range of activities range from development and codesign of algorithms for the fast-evolving hardware technologies, to performance engineering and analysis, application profiling, benchmarking to finding performance bottlenecks and scalability issues, verification, and validation of scientific applications developed in our group.

PDC is closely collaborating with leading HPC centers such as LUMI and RIKEN R-CCS, and we are also active in co-design collaborations with HPC vendors. The work will be performed together with the HPC Software Research & Development group and the core development teams of GROMACS, Neko and Veloxchem, which are located at KTH. This role requires strong collaborative skills and the ability to independently propose solutions to complex software challenges.

What we offer

  • A research environment in HPC with a leading role in Europe.
  • A position at a leading technical university that generates knowledge and skills for a sustainable future.
  • Possibility to work on cutting-edge HPC topics in close collaboration with major vendors.
  • Close collaboration with world-leading research groups in life science, biophysics and mechanics.
  • International network and the opportunities to travel to conferences and meetings.
  • Engaged and ambitious colleagues along with a creative, international and dynamic working environment.
  • Work in Stockholm, in close proximity to nature
  • Help to relocate and be settled in Sweden and at KTH
