Do you want to contribute to the State-of-the-Art breast cancer research?

The Johan Hartman Group at Karolinska Institutet (KI) is at the forefront of next generation precision pathology, integrating advanced image analysis and computational methods to enhance cancer diagnostics and treatment. Our clinical and translational research focuses on digital and computational pathology, molecular cancer profiling, and patient-derived cancer models to predict patient-specific drug responses. The aim is to better predict individual patients' unique drug sensitivity, as well as to understand the role of tumor heterogeneity and tumor-stromal interactions in breast cancer disease progression. We have a well-established research platform and organization using a multitude of pathology, genetic, and transcriptomic methods in a concerted effort to identify key factors that lead to resistance to current treatment regimens for breast cancer, as well as to identify novel biomarkers for the development of new diagnostic tools. The successful candidate will have the access to our unique patient datasets and is expected to perform top-level breast cancer studies together with our collaborators at both KI, KTH, and Science for Life Laboratory.

Your mission

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our multidisciplinary team consisting of clinicians, bioinformaticians, and biologists. The successful candidate will work on cutting-edge projects involving artificial intelligence (AI) and computational pathology, with a particular focus on developing and applying machine learning algorithms to analyze histopathology images, clinical and molecular data. Computer vision and deep learning techniques are central in our research projects aimed at improving cancer patient risk stratification. As a postdoctoral researcher you will be involved with evaluation and implementation of novel AI/deep learning models for precision medicine, contributing to development of new methodologies and strategies in the domain, participating in international collaboration studies, presenting results at scientific conferences and write research publications.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor, a PhD or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish PhD is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. Completion of your doctoral degree within the last three years is considered an advantage. If there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

  • To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher, applicants must hold (or be close to completing) a PhD in Computer Science or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree with strong background in medical image analysis, deep learning methodologies, and AI-based computational pathology.
  • Expertise in modern computer vision and AI research as well as experience with biomedical data analysis, programming (Python, R, MATLAB) and deep learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) is expected.
  • Prior work in cancer research or medical imaging is an asset.
  • It is considered an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.
  • The successful applicant should have excellent interpersonal communication and teamwork skills (written and verbal English) as well as good data management and documentation skills.
