- with focus on research

Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Do you want to work on further developing research at Karolinska Institutet (KI) and help strengthen the research environment and translational research on late complications after gonadotoxic treatments early in life? Welcome to a leading research environment at the Department of Women's and Children's Health (KBH).

Description of the subject area

At KBH, translational research is conducted on the impact of various environmental factors on human reproduction and the development of related diseases, such as endometriosis. The research at KBH is broad and encompasses a wide range of studies, from preclinical research in animal models to patient-oriented clinical research, nursing research, and registry-based studies. The department has also developed collaborations and networks within reproductive research at other departments at KI and externally. This provides ample opportunities for innovative research and development of treatment and care for subfertility, and related conditions.

Your mission

Our department conducts education and research in several areas. We are looking for an experienced researcher in reproductive biology. You will conduct research, supervise doctoral students and postdocs and participate in the education of physicians, nurses, and medical students. You will organize courses and participate in postgraduate education. You are expected to publish high-quality studies in well-reputed scientific journals.

In your role as a professor, you will contribute to collaboration with academia and industry, promote ethical principles in research and clinical practice, and communicate research to the public. In your work, you should strive to take a leading role in international organizations in human reproduction, reproductive endocrinology, or reproductive biology.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a professor with a focus on research, the applicant must have demonstrated excellent scientific expertise and good pedagogical expertise. (See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet).

You should conduct internationally leading research in reproductive biology or toxicology, measured by the number and quality of publications in international peer-reviewed journals, especially as last author. You should have research grants as the main applicant in national or international competition over the last few years and have been the main supervisor for doctoral students who have graduated. You should have demonstrated the ability to strategically lead a research group and collaborate nationally and internationally. You write and speak English fluently.

Assessment criteria

The position focuses on research. For this position, merits will be weighted as follows: scientific expertise (3), pedagogical expertise (2), leadership, development, and collaboration skills (2).

For employment as a professor at KI, the eligibility requirements and assessment criteria stated in the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet are applied in relation to the established profile of the employment.

It is particularly meritorious that you have experience and understanding of molecular markers, mechanisms and methods to evaluate new treatment methods aimed at reducing fertility problems among children treated with gonadotoxic agents, as well as environmental and genetic factors that influence the risk of infertility later in life.

It is meritorious that you have demonstrated

  • Good knowledge of extracting information from databases and analyzing the results.
  • A Docent degree in reproductive medicine or toxicology.
  • Research expertise in fertility and subfertility
  • Research expertise in modern molecular analyses of clinical samples

It is a requirement that you have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education, or have gained equivalent competence, as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution. If you lack such education at the time of employment, you must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the applicants in relation to the subject area, KI will determine which of them has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at our university.

What do we offer?

A creative and inspiring environment with wide-ranging expertise and interests. KI is one of the world's leading medical universities. Here, we conduct successful medical research and hold the largest range of medical education in Sweden. At KI, you get to meet researchers working with a wide range of specialisms and methods, giving you ample opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience with the various scientific fields within medicine and health. It is the crossover collaborations, which have pushed KI to where it is today, at the forefront of global research. Several of the people you meet in healthcare are educated at KI. A close relationship with the health care providers is important for creating groundbreaking top-quality education and research. Karolinska Institutet is also a state university, which entitles you to several benefits through our collective agreement.
