Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d)

in the field of „Model-based analysis of nutrient balances on intensive monitoring plots of the German Forest Environmental Monitoring“

The division „Bio-Geo-Chemical Processes“ of the Institute of Meteorology and Climate Research / Atmospheric Environmental Research (KIT/IMKIFU) at Campus Alpin in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, invites applications for a postdorctoral researcher (m/f/d).

Your tasks include:

  • prepare input datasets and scenario studies for intensive forest monitoring plots of Germany
  • calibrate, evaluate and adapt (e.g. vegetation parameters, vegetation-soil interaction, competition between vegetation classes) the process-based LandscapeDNDC model (https://ldndc.imk.ifu.kit.edu)
  • apply LandscapeDNDC at the site scale retrosepctively and in future scenario studies
  • interpret and discuss model results in close collaboration with the project partners

You have:

  • a university degree (PhD) in environmental sciences, forestry, geoecology, physics, chemistry or any related field
  • sound programming skills (C/C++, Fortran, SVN, Git. Python, R, Bash)
  • expierence in forest ecosystem modeling
  • unterstanding of biogeochemical carbon and nitrogen cycles in plant-soil systems
  • english language proficiency and ability to write scientific publications
  • strong communication and teamwork skills
