You will be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where a young and interdisciplinary research team composed of physicists, material scientists, engineers, and neuroscientists collaborate, each with their expertise, to carry out a scientific activity with a shared research goal.

The Nanotechnologies for Humans and Biosystems Research line is coordinated by Prof. Massimo De Vittorio, who has extensive experience in the development of science and technology applied to nanophotonics, nanoelectronics and nano and micro electromechanical systems (NEMS/MEMS) for applications in the fields of life-science, energy, and ICT.

The research focuses on environment, health and safety (EHS), functionalized materials and robotics. This includes developing a new generation of bio interfaces based on novel electronic, piezoelectric, acoustic and optoacoustic technologies to interact more efficiently with living cells and organisms. Activities include basic research and full prototyping (up to TRL 6-7), market-oriented technology development and translational research of medical devices.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Production of compliant biocompatible transducers for monitoring sleep, muscular symptoms or cardiovascular health.
  • Integration of transparent piezoelectric transducers on implantable probes and optical waveguides for in-vivo ultrasonography and optoacoustic applications.


  • A PhD in Physics, Engineering, Material science or comparable fields
  • Documented experience in development of advanced electronic, piezoelectric and multifunctional biointerfaces
  • Strong publication record
  • Ability to properly report, organize and publish research data
  • Documented experience in coaching junior scientists
  • Good command of spoken and written English
